The role of a sponsor is to be a mentor during this time of preparation. Sponsors pray for their candidate, pray with their candidate, and walk with them through this journey of faith. They should be available to answer questions and communicate with their candidate on a regular basis. This can be done in person, over the phone, or through an online meeting. Sponsors should help candidates complete Confirmation preparation requirements and help them prepare for their interview. 
A sponsor must:

• be a practicing Catholic
• be a Catholic in good standing with the church
• have received the Sacraments of Inititation: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation 
• cannot be a parent of the candidate
